In Ep44, I caught up with neo expressionist painter, Frank Holliday. Based in Bushwick, NY, Frank became known in NYC in the 1970s and 80s and is often associated with the East Village scene and Club 57. He shared some stories of exhibiting with Keith Haring, Jean Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, & Ann Magnuson during that time.
He gave us a tour of his Bushwick studio, shared thoughts around his painting process, how he is navigating teaching students at Parsons during the time of Covid, and discussed his latest exhibition in NYC. I was amazed at how transparent Frank was around his technique, artists who inspire him, and how open he was to share how he has remained focused all these years. In 2020, one of Frank’s paintings from a museum show sold at auction at Christie’s for $194,199.
I believe now is a great time for collectors to consider his work. I specifically love how Frank captures the light and energy in his paintings and I look forward to following his career more closely.
